Link Speed>>>>Diagnostics button>>Hardware Tab>>Run Test (This is the first sign anything works) 5. Link Speed>>Identify Adapter button>>Start (now the green light flashes) (NOTE This 2nd test will not work if you didn’t do the Hardware test first.) So what is the final result from this? Really nothing because the damn Ethernet Port still does not work. The motherboard seems to see the port and it seems to be availalbe. Although with the XP driver, I got no LED lights to light up ever; However you can ping the port and you get a good response – at least that is what the Lenovo site said – sorry, oh yeah I forgot, I pinged it while I had the XP driver installed at 127.0.0.0) The ping also works with the Intel Driver.

Click to expand. It's possible. Obviously, if you can connect using a USB wifi adapter, then we know that WZC is OK, and your basic Windows networking components are OK. This points to either the driver being bad, or the built-in wifi card being bad. It's possible that something is wrong with the driver at the IBM/Lenovo site, so try using from Intel. Be sure to completely uninstall all other wireless drivers (including the USB wifi driver) before installing this driver from Intel. If this doesn't work, perhaps the device is indeed faulty.

On the other hand, some laptops have a hotkey to turn the wifi on/off AND an actual switch (usually a small 'slider' type switch) that turns the wifi on/off. If you've looked around for such a switch and if it's there, you switched it on, and still no connection, then I'd say the wifi card is bad.
Initially I was going to enable wireless internet connection through WZC service. Wireless is enabled in BIOS. But IBM T41 can't switch wireless ((i)) on by pressing FnF5 (just bluetooth). I believe that should be done through the software. So, it is logical first to install the missing driver for Network Controller which is shown in Other Devices.

One of the things that most attracted me was the seamless integration between the user interface with the *nix underneath. So, before I bought a Mac I thought of trying it on a Intel PC. With a search on I found out that I could do it with an old IBM Thinkpad T42. It is not a perfect Mac. With the native screen resolution there are some artifacts appearing on the screen and the scroll on some windows also scrambles the window, but by pressing the F11 key twice the screen returns to normal. Here is what I did to make it work.
The IRQ 11 is shared by several devices with different addresses for each Have you heard of this happening? How can a system block motherboard based rj-45 ports but not wireless or USB?
However the Lan card was surprisingly dead. The computer would no longer but because of a hardware conflict.
